Our business started in the 1960’s with two brothers, and later a son, going into the moving business on the East Coast, with nothing but a pickup truck. Since 1985 we have been going strong in Los Angeles and continue to provide excellent moving services to the community of LA.

When should I contact Father & Son Moving?

Contact us sooner, rather than later. You’ll have a better chance of moving on your preferred date, as well as establish all of the details and costs of your move.

How do you determine the estimate?

We determine your moving estimate based on several factors: the total weight of all your items for long distance moves, the total number of hours needed for local moves, and total distance in between your locations for both local and long distance.

Are your estimates binding or nonbinding?

We offer both binding and non-binding moving estimates.

What is a binding estimate?

A binding estimate, or Not to Exceed price, is the total cost of the move which is agreed to by the shipper and carrier before the move. A binding estimate is provided to give you an exact price of the move before it happens, which can help you establish a moving budget.

What is a non-binding estimate?

A non-binding estimate is an estimate that can change based on your needs. For long distance moves, once all of your belongings are loaded into the truck we travel to a certified weigh station to weigh the truck. At this point we will know how much your shipment weighs so we can provide an actual cost based on your shipment weight. This option can be more or less than your original estimate depending on how much you take and the services actually need. For local moves, we charge by the hour. Depending on the actual number of movers and hours your specific move needs will determine the total cost.

Do you offer insurance in case something is damaged?

Yes, we do. There is basic coverage included at no additional charge on every move. However, if you are interested in a higher level of protection we have plans to meet those needs as well. Make sure to check your homeowners or renters plan as well, often times they will cover you while you’re moving. Accidents happen, and we want to make sure that your possessions are safe and sound. What if I need to cancel my moving reservation?

Give us a call and we will take care of it! We understand life can sometimes be unpredictable, so feel free to reach out if you need to cancel or reschedule your residential or commercial move.

Do you give back to your community?

We donate as often as possible! We donate furniture and clothes to various causes. Some of the organizations we donate to include The National Council of Jewish Women, Goodwill, Midnight Mission, LA County Family Housing, and Salvation Army. What types of homes do you typically move?

We move all types of homes, but typically, we move single-family houses and apartments. These home are usually 1,500+ square feet. However, we can move any sized home. We can move anything from a studio apartment to a large mansion. Learn more about our residential moving services here!

How often do you coordinate with a residential move client?

We believe that communication is key during a residential move. It all starts with an initial conversation to assess your needs. Once you’re ready to schedule your move we take all the pertinent moving details and book your moving date. Afterward, we send a follow-up email to confirm. Going forward, we address any intermediary changes or questions you may have. Finally, we reach out for final confirmation 1-2 days before the move.

What are some areas in LA you service?

Some of the neighborhoods we service in LA include but are not limited to San Fernando Valley, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Calabasas, Encino, Brentwood, Valencia, and Santa Clarita.

How long does it typically take to pack up an average sized home?

It usually takes between 4 and 6 hours to pack an average sized home. Of course, tt varies depending on the size of your move. However, we are able to accommodate your needs by providing more professional packers.

What do customers need to do before the professional packers arrive?

Before our professional packers arrive at your home or office, it is recommended that you sort through your belongings and decide what needs to be packed, and what needs to be disposed of. If you need help with the sorting process we can assist with that as well. We’re there to help with as much or as little as you would like.

Do you recycle your used packing materials?

How long does an office move with Father & Son usually take?

On average, a commercial move in LA takes around 8 hours. However, the amount of time varies depending on the size of the office and how much you are planning to move. You should also consider additional time if you choose to use our packing services. Learn more at our professional packers page.

How closely does your project manager coordinate with businesses on commercial moves?

We work closely with businesses during commercial moves. The follow-up process is similar to residential moves but commercial moves can be more complex and require more coordination. This is why we assign you a project manager, we want to make sure all your concerns are addressed during your commercial move, so feel free to contact your project manager at any point.
